Yay! :D Oddly, the only Cisco commercial with Ellen I've seen on TV is when she visits the doctor, it's nice to see she'll have a little more exposure with this documentary.

Thanks for the heads up, Dom.

On another note, watching the trailer, this is a pretty troubling revelation at the impact that bees have on the global scale; I had no idea that their pollination accounted for so many other food sources.

Sounds like a sweet documentary w Ellen as host :D

I have heard about this problem with the loss of bees....I saw the trailer and they had the 60 Minutes piece for a second....60 Mins did a story on this a few years ago.

I cant wait for this to come out. Will it be on TV or in movie theaters? Ellen doing documentaries is so cool

BTW....Kegan.....you will see a lot of Ellen's CISCO commercials this weekend.....on ESPN channels and ABC during college basketball.....the halftime shows are sponsored by CISCO.......I have watched a lot of hoops this week....and lots of them Ellen CISCO commercials :) ESPN, ESPN 2 ESPNU ABC should have them on

I'm one of the only ones I know who doesn't get March Madness, so I probably still won't catch them on TV lol thankfully, I can get my fix online if needed.

The more I contemplate the bee issue, the more paranoid I get; I like my red meat and refuse to sustain on wheat and rice :D it's un-American! That and I've got a fondness for salted meat, so beef jerky and similar flavors are my friend.

First, I have moved your posting because I saw no need to start a new topic under "Ellen Page" for a movie thing. Thanks for your understanding.

Second,

Found this story on-line.....bees are disappearing in Texas....30% fewer bees than last year. Texas is a major exporter of bee colonies to other states (like California) and its having a big effect on food production.

Ellen and her work on Vanishing of the Bees could not have been more timelier

Article originally in San Antonio Daily News....link is from Houston Chronicle website (both Texas newspapers, Link is below

Recent update from the film makers, George Langworthy & Maryam Henein.
Greetings,

We have exciting news to share ~ Oscar-nominated actress Ellen Page (JUNO) has recorded the narration for the U.S version of Vanishing of the Bees!

Since completing the film for the UK release last fall, we knew we had some changes to make and would need to re-record the narration. We wanted a woman to represent the sister society within a beehive. And we also wanted someone with celebrity starpower that could draw audiences and spread the message about the bees. But most importantly, we wanted someone who was personally concerned about the bees and the greater issues their plight represents.

After a local fundraiser, our friend Peter Youngblood Hills asked for a copy of the film. Unbeknownst to us he was taking it to his friend Leonardo DiCaprio. On the movie set of Inception a few weeks later, Ellen Page got upset at one of the crew members who had swatted and killed a bee.

"You should meet my friend Peter, he was saving bees out of my pool last week," her co-star Leonardo joked - and he told her about our documentary.

Peter and Ellen did meet and he had the brilliant idea to show her our film! She was so moved that she cried while seeing our UK version. Knowing we were looking for a U.S. narrator - Peter arranged for us to meet. Soon afterward, at a restaurant in Larchmont Village in Los Angeles - we met with Ellen and she agreed to narrate our documentary!

We were both blown away by Ellen. She was personable and humble and smart. She got it! She got how important the film is and how her 'starpower' could help raise awareness and reach the masses. She is a supporter of permaculture and sustainability and is a fan of Michael Pollan - a key character in Vanishing of the Bees. As it turns out, he's also a fan of Ellen's.

Thank you bees. Thank you Peter for being a Sheppard. And thank YOU for your interest in the film.

We are setting up screenings across the U.S. starting now! If you want Vanishing of the Bees to come to your town - send us a note and let us know.

Sweetly,

George & Maryam

I found this video from environmentalist Dr. David Suzuki for the CBC series: "The Nature of Things", titled: To Bee or Not to Bee. It's well put together. Ellen will also be interviewed by him for his CBC radio show, "The Bottom Line".

Is that $100 donation promo still active?
-----
From FB : Hi Kegan. The offer still stands but the value has gone up. We are now offering an Ellen Page-autographed copy via our Kickstarter campaign for $500.
-----
No thanks. Looks like I'll settle for writing her personally and waiting a year. I'm sorry, while the cause is worth it no doubt, I can't equate anyone's signature to that much money.

Thanks for the info, but I'm more of a signed photo kind of guy anyway...that or dinner with her, but let's be realistic :D

I also read a comment on the page that cell phones are killing the bees off...that's terrifying to think, given their importance to the majority of society today.
