There have been quite a few articles about Roller Derby which reference Whip It. This one was out today from NPR:
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/stor ... =129536182 and is called: These Roller Skating Women Get 'Down And Derby'
It features Alex Cohen, Ellen's roller derby trainer, "Axles of Evil".
Cohen has joined forces with another L.A. Derby Doll, Jennifer "Kasey Bomber" Barbee, to write Down and Derby: The Insider's Guide to Roller Derby.
There's a small mention of Whip It, but mainly gives some interesting background on the sport.

I like this quote which I think applies to Ellen's Babe Ruthless:
It's not all about brute strength and size, though. "If you're a good skater it doesn't matter what size you are," Cohen explains. "People are most intimated by ankle biters" — skaters close to the ground who are very quick and hard to pass. After all, on the track, it's all about speed

After the first time that I saw Whip It, I added live roller derby events to my bucket list. The upcoming season at a local league starts in October :)
