I cried by the end of this movie, which is extremely rare for me. Although certain parts of the movie tried to depict a softer side to Gertrude, I felt absolutely no sympathy. I was very angry that she got out of prison on parole.
And as always Ellen was great in her role. Even more impressive is that this is completely different from her other work. I had zero background knowledge about the movie when I saw it, so I had a small glimmer of hope for Sylvia during the escape scene. Unfortunately it was just a dream/hallucination.
Ok my mind is a little disturbed now that I wrote this. Time to watch a happier movie.
